Playa del Carmen is in the Quintana Roo state, in Mexico, in the Yucatan peninsula region. On the southwest of Mexico, and the south of Cancún, it's one of the biggest attractions of the Mayan Riviera. Its coasts are on the Caribbean Sea and its most important economical activity is tourism. It's got white beaches and clear waters.
It's an amazing place transformed by man. More than 40 years ago, Playa del Carmen was a simple fishing town with a pier and today, due to its location, it's the core of the Mayan Riviera. Strong investment and construction were introduced, small and big hotels were erected, as well as shops, restaurants... everything has changed, but its magic charm. The buildings are low and the ambiance still has an authentic flavor. Little by little it's been becoming one of the most sophisticated and populated tourist destinations of the world. The most popular of its beautiful beaches, which invite to go for a swim in their warm clear waters and lay down on their white, fine sand, surrounded by reef walls, are: Chunzubul, ideal for snorkeling, and Coco, with tranquil waters, perfect for a family getaway. The beaches that have a fabulous surrounding are El Faro, Alejari and Shangri-la, that for sure are among the best beaches in Mexico.
